First Mull Trip

As the long days approach and the good weather holding it was time for a trip to Mull. Meeting at the airport on a sunny Monday evening we fueled up and lumbered into the sunny sky.

Heading to Mull

Given how hungry we were we opted for a direct routing up towards Oban passed the North end of Loch Lomond. Coasting out after Oban we changed over to Glenforsa radio and established the runway 26 was in use. A quick glance at the waves below confirmed that it would be a slight crosswind from the North.

After a very good landing on Mull we taxied in, paid the very reasonable £10 landing fee and ordered some food. Always the service was very good and in no time our food had arrived to our very hungry table. With a chicken burger, fish tacos and sea food pasta devoured we ordered some coffee and then made tracks to depart.

With the wind coming directly from the North we opted for a Easterly departure to benefit from the downward slope and minimal obstacles over the sea. On our routing back we decided to route down the coast and across the Glasgow zone to enjoy a lovely sunset. With preflight checks complete we lined up and ran the aircraft up to full power, released the brakes and barreled down the very bumpy runway into the sky. Initially we routed over to Oban then down the coast towards the Glasgow zone with the beauty of the sea and sun off to our West. With Greenock in sight we changed over to Glasgow approach and contacted them for a zone transit up the Clyde.

With a direct clearance through the zone to Cumbernauld we passed over the Erskine Bridge and followed the Clyde up to the city centre before making a turn direct for Cumbernuald. The sunset behind us offered wonderful views of the city in the golden light! The photo below has been entered for BBC good pictures. Fingers crossed!
